Application Process
REIGN
REIGN holds a rather unique application process which helps ensure we maintain a high quality community. The basic process is simple... post an application in the forums, wait for it to be reviewed and accepted enabling you to become a trial (or "Hopeful") applicant, get an invite in-game and play with us and chill on our forums with us while we vote to determine if you should be accepted as a full member.

The main nuance to be aware of is that REIGN is a very popular guild and receives an exorbitant number of applications. As such, we has implemented a monthly quota on new applicants and only permits a maximum of ten (10) people into the Hopeful trial phase PER MONTH. A few notes about this...

  • Anyone who applies during a month in which 10 people have already been taken in as Hopefuls will be deferred to the 1st of the next month.

  • If a waiting list accrues of people applying during a month in which 10 people have already been taken in as Hopefuls, we will take the applicants in chronological order at the 1st of the next month.

  • If the 'on hold' queue reaches more than 10 applicants, at the start of the new month, each one will be sent a private message ("PM") to ensure they are still here and still interested in applying. Any who do not respond in a timely manner will be deemed to have abandoned their application and their spot will be replaced by the next person in line.

  • Referrals/family/friends of existing members are afforded the ability to bypass the waiting list (if there is one) and do NOT count towards the max 10 applicants per month rule. This allows for our existing members to continue to play with friends who may not already be a part of the guild and keeps the waiting list at a manageable level.

Why do we do this you might ask? Simple... to retain our high quality community. We are NOT a zerg guild. We do NOT value quantity over quality and as such, we vet each and every applicant with a great level of attention to ensure they fit with the ideals of our community and meld with our atmosphere.

How to Apply »

  1. Post your application using the required application template within the recruitment section of our forums.

  2. Once your application has been reviewed by a guild leader (Sovereign or Overlord), we will start your Hopeful trial period as we welcome you to the forums. (Of course, if we've already reached our application quota limit for the month, we will instead place you "on hold" until the quota resets and we can get you started.) We will upgrade your forum rank to Hopeful. This will enable you access to additional forum sections that will allow you to get to know the guild better and allows the guild to get to know you better as well.

  3. Your Hopeful period will last 14 days (2 full weeks; sometimes longer if circumstances present themselves that require more time for us to form an opinion of you), during which time our members will confer internally and we take a vote on your membership. Voting will be based on any combination of the following factors:

    • Accurate usage of the application template;

    • Content of your application;

    • Level of in-game activity;

    • Conduct and interactions amongst our members;

    • Quantity of your forum posts;

    • Quality of your forum posts;

    • Participation in the website chat room and/or VOIP server; and

    • Overall, how well we got to know you as a person.

  4. You will be instructed to send an in-game /tell to an available member who can provide you with an invitation to join the guild. A list of character names that can send you an invite will be provided to you. Note that you will need a valid passcode in order to do so.

  5. At the end of your trial period, the outcome of the vote on your membership will determine whether or not you have been accepted as a full member of the REIGN community. In order to be accepted as a full member, the number of "Yes" votes has to outweigh the number of "No" votes by at least a 50% margin.

Application Tips »

  • While in your trial period, we STRONGLY encourage you to post questions you might have and chime in on the various discussions we may have going on. In short, get familiar with our guild and our members and let them get to know you.

  • Remember, the trial period is for you to get to see if we are the right fit for you as much as it is for us to see if you are fit for us.

  • Do not fill out an application and then disappear during or after your trial period. That just wastes everyone's time. At REIGN, we ask that you be an active part of the community, not just a lurker.

  • Things we really look for in your application:

    • Comprehensive Answers: The first and foremost thing we look for in an application. Remember essay exams? Consider our application to be similar. The more you write in your answer for a given question the more likely we are to look favorably on your application. Even if it's just a yes/no question, or a multiple choice, state your answer, and state why you gave that answer. This gives us a lot more insight into who you are than just a one-word answer.

    • Presentation: This has as much to do with formatting as it does grammar and punctuation. While some members are forgiving and even easy-going on the latter, proper template is something we all look for as it shows your ability to pay attention to detail. Please ensure you have good, clear paragraphs and that you've followed the given template properly. If you need help figuring out how, just ask. We'd be glad to help you do it right! Do things in your application that will delight and surprise us - this will not only make your application stand out, but it will make us enjoy reading it, and that can be nothing but good for you.

    • Prompt Responses to Member Questions: Often after you have posted your application our members will have questions about your application, or maybe just about you in general. Don't be offended if some of our members are a bit strident in their approach to these questions. As mentioned above, we're not looking for a body count, we're looking for quality members who will be able to contribute to our guild community. As a result, our members are very protective of this community and thus ask hard questions or make sharp comments almost as part of a proving grounds. How you react to and answer these questions gives us insight to who you are and, by extension, how well you would fit in here.

    • BE YOURSELF: We aren't interested in your RP persona, your l33t raiding accomplishments that make you sound like a gaming god, or how you dominate everyone you meet in PvP. We'll get to that in due time. We aren't interested in your version of the person you think we'd like to see. We want to see the real you. Don't waste your time and ours by putting one person on your application, then acting completely different once you are accepted as a full member. We have ninjas here. We will catch on to you, and more often than not, it will not go over well with the guild.

Additional Info »

REIGN is not a guild that places quantity over quality. We have no aspirations to be the "biggest" guild in the games we play. We do, however, care greatly about the quality of our members and community atmosphere. We want every member to enjoy being here and around each other. If, as you read that, you thought to yourself, "Self, that doesn't make any sense," or, "Self, I don't think like that," then REIGN is probably not a good fit for you. If you're still with us, and are truly interested in joining a guild that walks its own path, then we'd like to invite you to become a registered member on our forums, take a look around, and get a feel for how things work around here.

See the unique (and standard) things we have to offer, browse our public forums, and ask yourself if you think you'd fit in here. Really take a good, honest look at what we're about before deciding to fill out an application.

If you looked around, you saw that we want and recruit people who will be compatible with our current membership. We want people whose effort to be a part of our community make them more than "just another member" or "just another forum name" that pops up from time to time. As you get to know us, BE YOURSELF. We want to know you for who you are, not who you might pretend to be on your application because you think the answers better fit our charter.

There are no free rides in life, and the same holds true in REIGN. Here, you must earn the respect you are given, and you must give that same respect to existing members. You must contribute to our community just as the community gives to you.

The path before you, your trial period, will not be an easy one. You will be tested, and you will be questioned. This is done because we want to make sure every applicant accepted as a full member is the right fit. Our application process and your trial period are your Rite of Passage into one of the premier Sith Empire guilds in SWTOR. We at REIGN take this process seriously and devote effort and energy to get to know you. We expect you do the same for us.

If you're still with me, that's a really good start. Please keep all of that in mind as you apply, and welcome to REIGN!
